As with most leagues in So. CA, the DeAnza League postponed its finals until Halloween to allow the smoke to clear the air. Subsequently, a change of venue was also necessary to complete the league competition. The final were run at Machris Park in Yucca Valley. The same place where the Hi-Desert Classic yielded some very fast times. But fast times were not going to be the order of the day. The original course was marked a quarter mile short, but was correct for today's race. When the dust settled and the ghosts & goblins finished their efforts, Big Bear and Yucca Valley were left holding all the treats.

Big Bear boys ran away with its 4th consecutive title & the Yucca girls won its 4th in 5 years. The Bears were paced by defending league champion, Alberto Solis, who covered the course in 16:32. Second place went to Francisco Fuentes in 17:08, followed by a pair of Yucca Valley runners in 3rd,Cody Evans (17:16), & Brian Everest (17:18). On the team side, Yucca, Desert Mirage, & Desert Hot Springs competed for the final 2 spots for CIF. In the end, the Halloween air saw Yucca Valley sneak past the Rams & the Eagles to claim 2nd place in the race with a score of 53 points, and 3rd overall in the league. Desert Mirage finished in 3rd place with 66 points, but goes to CIF as the #2 seed due to its performance in the previous league meets. Desert Hot Springs was 4th with 78 points & 29 Palms was 5th with 128 points.

On the girls side, the duo of Katarina Ratkowiak & Harlie Hitchcock, both of Yucca Valley, placed 1st & 2nd respectively. Katarina successfully defended her title as League Queen, running 19:45 over a very hilly and sandy course. Hitchcock's time was 1 min behind. Cassidy Tokunaga & Sarah Chatham of Big Bear were next to cross the line, followed by Kaitlyn Smith of 29 Palms to round out the top five. As a team, the Lady Trojans scored 39 points to seal its title with a 9 point victory over the Bears. The most improved team in the league, the Lady Wildcats of 29 Palms, came up 1 point short, falling to Big Bear 48-49. All three teams will go to post season as the representatives of the league.

The JV results had Yucca Valley as its only scoring girls team and sweeping the top 5 spots over the 2 Desert Hot Springs runners. Elisa Escalante won the race in 26:01. Big Bear easily dominated the boys JV race, with Blake Bruenning just nipping his teammate Preston Carlisle, both running 18:05.
